Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between Junction 5 and 6 after reports of the serious incident at around 10.45am.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) said two ambulances, an emergency response vehicle and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene but stood down after midday.
The northbound carriageway was closed for several hours before reopening just before 4pm.
