THE police are appealing for information and witnesses following a traffic collision on the longabout near Colney Heath today (Tuesday), which left a motorcyclist with a broken leg.

Investigating officer PC Gareth Rees from Herts police said they would particularly like to speak to the driver of a white lorry or van seen in the area at the time of the collision.

At around 12.05pm a blue Nissan Micra, driven by a 19 year old man from St Albans, collided with a Kawasaki motorbike at the Smallford Lane/A414 junction.

The motorcyclist, a 23 year old man from Welwyn Garden City, was thrown from his bike.

He was taken to Watford Hospital with serious leg injuries.

According to an East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust spokeswoman, one of the motorcyclist’s legs was broken, and his ankle in the other leg was suspected of also being broken.

The driver of the Micra was in shock but uninjured in the collision.

PC Rees said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision to get in contact as soon as possible.

“We believe there may have been a white lorry or van travelling in the same direction as the motorcycle around the time of the collision. We would like to speak to the driver of this lorry as we believe he may have information which could help this inquiry.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Rees in the road policing unit on 101.
