BRITAIN’S Got Talent star Alice Fredenham is still coming to terms with her new-found fame after hardline judge Simon Cowell praised the Harpenden beauty therapist’s “liquid gold” voice on the hit show.

The 28 year old has recently quit her job at Breathing Space spa in Harpenden to concentrate on her singing after appearing on ITV on Saturday

Alice stunned judges with her rendition of My Funny Valentine as she visibly fought nerves before and during her audition.

She admitted to hosts Ant and Dec that she had kept her audition secret from family because “if I’m not successful I don’t have to admit that to anyone”.

However the secret that she has a great voice is well and truly out now that Alice has hit the headlines in national newspapers and appeared on ITV’s Daybreak, after impressing the show’s celebrity judges.

Alice, also a qualified trainee journalist, told the Herts Advertiser – where she once did work experience – that it was “strange” seeing herself on TV at the weekend.

The former St Albans Girls’ School pupil said: “I chose the song because I’m a jazz fan. I had all my family around to watch the show, and my mum and sister were excited for me. Everybody is very proud of me.”

Older brother George Fredenham, co-founder of The Foragers at The Verulam Arms in St Albans, praised her performance.

He said: “She has always been shy about singing, and she never sang in front of us.”

Her former boss at Breathing Space, owner Keith Lunn, said: “She was a great member of our team, and a very good beauty therapist. Alice is a very modest person, and we are thrilled she has done so well. She obviously hid her talent.”

Herts Advertiser editor Matt Adams recalled Alice’s work experience at the paper three years ago.

He said: “She’d worked as a beauty therapist but was looking to become a beauty and fashion journalist.

“Of course we had no idea she was an incredible singer, and it came as a huge surprise to see her on Britain’s Got Talent.”

Alice said the judge she had been most “scared” about singing for was Simon Cowell.

But after receiving a standing ovation on the show, the media mogul said: “Wow! Oh my God this is what I’ve been waiting for. Your voice is like liquid gold.”

When an overwhelmed Alice became tearful the music mogul continued: “You could sing the phone book. I love your voice and I also love the fact that you actually don’t even know how good you are.”

Fellow judge David Walliams asked why Alice was crying, to which she replied: “I just didn’t expect this kind of response. It was like my dream and now it has happened.”

David told her she sang “like a goddess”.

Simon said he wanted to remember the day that he met Alice, because he thought she was special.
