Uno Buses say water repairs and congestion disrupted services in St Albans

Bus passengers have been left out in the cold, facing severe delays, as winter weather sets in.

Travellers on the UNO 655 that goes from Borehamwood to St Albans have experienced delays and cancellations for more than a week.

Some have had to wait more than an hour for their bus with little or no explanation, including many on their way to and from work.

Josie Wentworth, 70, of St Albans, is extremely frustrated by the situation, which she thinks has been handled badly.

Her daughter uses the bus route daily. She said: “They’re not telling anyone what is going on, and in this weather too.

“It’s bad enough if you’re a young professional but if you’re an elderly person it really affects you.

“If people were made aware in advance that there was not going to be a service running then they could make alternative arrangements, but there’s been nothing.”

James Thorpe, managing director of Uno Buses, said: “The main cause of the service disruption to Uno route 655 is a diversion and road closure at Theobalds Street, Radlett, due to major water repairs.

“This is the main link between Radlett and Borehamwood and the route of service 655.

“The extent of the diversion and impact on traffic congestion in the area has caused severe delays along the length of the route, especially in the peak morning and afternoon periods.”

Mr Thorpe said it was a planned closure but the bus company had not been notified in advance and had been unaware that there would be disruption. Services were expected to be back to normal from last weekend, he added.
