A FIRE broke out in a St Albans city centre underground car park at the weekend after a vagrant is thought to have accidentally set alight to some clothing.

Firefighters from St Albans were called to the scene along London Road, behind the SA Law offices, at around 6pm on Saturday.

They soon put out the flames and left around 20 minutes later.

The firefighters suspected that a homeless person had been sleeping in the car park and set fire to the pile of clothes by accident.
