Two men were hospitalised yesterday (Monday) following a crash in St Albans.

Two vehicles are believed to have collided at about 5.20pm after one pulled out of Damson Way on to Sandpit Lane.

One car, a Citroen C1, caught fire and subsequently surrounding trees set alight, but all flames were put out by the fire service.

Both men were pulled from their car and hospitalised at Watford General Hospital and Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

One man, aged 60, of St Albans, was today still in hospital.

The other man, believed to be aged in his 40s, sustained minor injuries.

The vehicles were recovered by just after 7pm and the road closures were left on to allow Herts county council’s highways contractor to clear the road surface.

The road reopened at around 8.15pm.
