Two people have been charged with slavery offences following arrests made in St Albans earlier this year.

Police carried out an investigation and arrested four people connected with slavery at an address in Watford Road in March.

Johnny Murphy, 25, and 22 year old Shanon Loveridge, both of Watford Road, were arrested following reports around potential human trafficking taking place on the premises.

They have been charged with knowingly holding a person in slavery or servitude and knowingly require another to perform forced labour in St Albans between April 2010 and September 2014.

The two other people arrested, 62 year old woman and 64 year old man, have since been released without charge.

Murphy and Loveridge have been released on bail to appear before St Albans Magistrates Court on October 27.
