TWO cars were involved in a head-on smash in St Albans on Saturday morning and the drivers had be cut from the wreckages and rushed to hospital with serious injuries. At about 10.50am, a TVR sports car driven by a man from St Albans and a VW Polo driven by a woman from Surrey crashed in Sandpit Lane near House Lane. The Polo ended up on the side of the road and the TVR, which was travelling towards St Albans, was spun round and left facing the wrong way. The fire service had to use three different sets of specialist hydraulic cutting equipment to free both drivers, who were trapped in their cars. They were then taken to QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City. The woman was later moved to a hospital in Milton Keynes and the man was said to be in a comfortable condition. Police are asking for anyone with information on the crash to contact PC David Warren in the Central Area Road Policing Unit on 01707 638707.
