TWO men have been charged with the burglary of two properties in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The first crime happened at about 3.15am in Hampden Place, Frogmore, where a number of items including a camera and a mobile phone were stolen.

The second was at 5.25am in Park Street Lane where items including a safe were stolen and in both cases entry was gained through uPVC doors which were closed and locked but not double locked.

Police also believe a third burglary may have occurred in the Park Street area on the same day which has not yet been reported.

An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old from Borehamwood were charged and were due to appear at the Central Herts Magistrates Court in St Albans on Friday.

Det Sgt Laura Randall from the St Albans Local Crime Group, said: "We believe a third burglary may have occurred in the Park Street area on Thursday which has not yet been reported to us. If anyone believes they may have been burgled, please contact us so we can reunite you with your possessions."

"We are also missing some stolen property - a digital camera, a handbag, black purse with credit cards and cash, two laptops and a safe containing watches and money. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this property, we would like to hear from you so that we can return this stolen property to the rightful owners."

She pointed out that the doors were an easy target for burglars as they weren't double locked and added: "To reduce the chances of you being burgled, make sure you double lock all UPVC doors - don't give burglars an open invitation into your home."
