WOODLAND Trust president Clive Anderson joined over 600 volunteers who descended on Heartwood Forest on Sunday to take part in the latest tree-planting event.

The turnout included 100 Jewish followers marking Mitzvah Day and 200 Hindus celebrating Sewa Day by planting trees at the forest in Sandridge.

Louise Neicho, site manager for Heartwood Forest, said: “We had a great turnout on Sunday; it was lovely to see so many people appear on what was quite a cold and grubby day. To plant 5,000 trees was a real achievement and we look forward to seeing everyone back here in December.”

The new tree-planting session is on Saturday, December 11, a special Christmas-themed occasion which could feature a special guest invited by the Woodland Trust.
