Travellers have set up camp on Harpenden Common outside St John’s Church.
Police say they were called at 2pm today and told a number of vehicles had entered land on St Johns Road.
Officers are liaising with travellers and Harpenden town council, who own the site, to monitor the situation.
Harpenden council have put out a statement saying: “We are aware that there are a small number of people with horses camped on Harpenden Common opposite St John’s Church.
“We have spoken to the individuals this afternoon along with colleagues from Herts Police, and are expecting them to have left the area by 9am Saturday morning.”
