WORK to improve a pedestrian crossing and a traffic signal controlled junction in St Albans will begin on Monday, closing several roads and affecting bus routes.

A staggered crossing is to be installed on Beech Road to reduce pedestrian crossing time and a zebra crossing on St Albans Road will be refurbished.

Cycling facilities will also be fitted at the Sandridge Road/Beech Road (King William IV) junction, as will mirrors to improve visibility of cyclists and to aid the drivers of large vehicles in the feeder lanes.

The upgrade is expected to take five weeks to complete and work will be carried out between the hours of 09.30am and 4.30pm.
