HEAVY rain on Sunday evening is still causing problems throughout this morning (Monday) in the St Albans district.
The westbound M10 motorway is closed to avoid additional traffic joining the northbound M1 which suffered severe flooding between Junctions 8 and 9 as a result of Sunday's torrential rain.
Originally three lanes of the northbound M1 were closed through the roadworks because of the flooding but two have now reopened.
Police have ruled out any immediate reopening of the westbound M10 saying that it could remain closed for a substantial period of time.
The closure has led to severe traffic problems throughout the district especially on main routes into and out of the city especially from the Bricket Wood, Park Street direction and on the A4147 Hemel Hempstead Road.
