THREE people were taken to hospital following an accident involving a car and a van last night (Thursday).

Emergency services were called to the scene near Bowmans Green School in Shenley Lane, London Colney, at around 7.30pm and found the white Citroën Berlingo van on its side having collided with a black Honda Civic.

Two men were trapped inside the van and firefighters had to cut them free before they were taken to the QE2 hospital along with another casualty.

The fire crew from St Albans were shocked to find one of the casualties was a member of staff from the station.

Police closed the road between the junctions with Walsingham Way and Telford Road, which was also closed along with Manor Road.

The closures weren't lifted until around 10.30pm due to a fuel spillage.
