A COMBINATION of melting snow and heavy rainfall has caused the River Colne in London Colney to burst its banks.

One resident living near the river has left their home as a result of the burst bank which happened this morning. (Tuesday)

Waterside in London Colney has been worst hit by the weather conditions but Bullens Green Road in Colney Heath has also been badly affected by flood water which ranges from one foot to four feet deep. So far it has not got into any homes.

St Albans police District Chief Inspector Richard Hann said: "Police officers and PCSOs have been working closely with the council and Environment Agency since last night to make sure the residents are safe and help reduce damage to their homes and possessions."

Although no major routes are affected, drivers are being advised to avoid the area at the moment.
