The Fireworks Spectacular is the largest display in the area and has been running for more than 25 years, raising in excess of £750,000 for charity.

The Dean of St Albans, the Very Rev Dr Jeffrey John, said: “It was a magical evening, with a full moon and the floodlit Cathedral reflected in the lake, as the backdrop to the most magnificent display of fireworks yet.

“We are very pleased and proud to organise this event, which brings the city and community together for such a happy and exciting experience, and which benefits local charities too. “

This year’s nominated charities are Earthworks St Albans, which helps people with learning disabilities learn horticulture, and Waverley Driving Group RDA, which provides carriage driving for the disabled.

Louise Attrup, executive partner of Debenhams Ottoway which was the headline sponsor for the event, said: ““We were proud to sponsor the event and it was fantastic to see so many members of our community coming out to celebrate.”

The event was organised by the Fireworks Team, and chair Paul Dean thanked the volunteers who made it possible.

He said: “We would like to thank everyone involved, in particular the St Albans District Explorer Scouts, for their superhuman efforts and support for this remarkable community occasion.”
