A MARTIAL arts club that has high-kicked its way onto the St Albans scene has celebrated its third anniversary with visits from local dignitaries and two special sessions.
Kaisho Martial Arts, which runs classes in St Albans and Harpenden, held a domo – a type of performance or routine – before the Deputy Mayor of St Albans, Beric Read, at Beaumont School and before Harpenden Town Mayor, Daniel Chichester-Miles, and County Councillor, Bernard Lloyd, at Crabtree Junior School in Harpenden.
During the anniversary sessions, some members took their belt tests in red, orange and yellow, and those who were successful were presented with their belts and certificates by the Mayors and Cllr Lloyd.
Kaisho Martial Arts was founded by Sean Connley who opened his first club in 2007 and now has three clubs across the district. He is planning to open another five clubs across the county as of January.
He said the success of the club was down to the small classes and the fact that students are encouraged to have fun, keep fit and learn self-defence. Kaisho, which means ‘meeting’ in Japanese, teaches a combination of karate, kickboxing, ju-jitsu and self-defence.
