Thieves scarpered in a stolen vehicle after breaking into a home in Westfields, St Albans yesterday.
This was after smashing in a back door and turning the place over trying to find valuables.
They satisfied themselves with a small amount of cash and some CDs, and left in what is believed to have been a stolen car.
Its make and model has not been released.
Three police cars and a van swooped in on the scene after police were called at 3.46pm.
But by the time they arrived, the burglars had already gotten away.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to call 101.
