A PERFECT score has been awarded to council housing in the St Albans district by the Government.
It was revealed during a Parliamentary debate that the district council was 100 per cent up to the Decent Homes Standard set by the Government in 2006 - a target it has reached four years ahead of schedule.
A council spokesperson said it was a result of continuous investment in the council's housing stock over many years and added: "Work carried out annually on the capital programme is done to maintain the 100 per cent Decent Homes Standard.
"For example in the forthcoming year 2008/09, we will spend £6.5m on capital works such as installing double-glazed windows and doors, refurbishment of kitchen and bathrooms, renewal of flat and pitched roofing, new gas boilers and loft and wall insulation.
