The third anniversary of the violent tower block death of Shumin Hussain was marked in the Herts Advertiser a decade ago, as the police had failed to charge anyone with his murder.
Mr Hussain plunged to his death from the window of a flat on the ninth-floor in Telford Court, Alma Road, on September 7, 2003.
A story on the unsolved murder ‘riddle’ in this paper’s September 7, 2006, edition referred to evidence at a four-day inquest into his death, which said Mr Shumin and Javid Iqbal, who occupied the flat, were glassed in the face by a gang of people who forced their way in, after money was stolen by a girl.
During the fight Mr Iqbal said he had been threatened with a gun by Marc Browne, who also lived in Telford Court.
CCTV footage and witness statements placed him and a group of men in the Vintry pub and the tower block, but they claimed they could not remember details from that evening, and some denied going to the flat.
Specialist officers abseiled down the side of the building to collect forensic evidence.
