TEN fire engines were needed to put out a fire in a timber-roofed block of flats in Radlett on Sunday morning.
The blaze started at around 7am in the timber cavity wall and roof of a four storey block of flats in Craig Mount.
Fire crews from Borehamwood, Hemel Hempstead, St Albans, Watford and Hatfield were sent to tackle the blaze in the village which lost its own retained fire brigade after a bitter battle with Herts County Council.
The firefighters used two water-jets and extinguished the fire by 9.38am. Salvage work at the flats began at 10.53am.
A spokesperson for Herts Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was accidental and four people involved were uninjured.
