RESIDENTS can put out both black and green wheelie bins for waste to be picked up on their scheduled collection day from December 24 until Wednesday January 5 2011, the council has announced.

Snow and ice during the recent cold snap has affected St Albans district council’s refuse and recycling service, with some roads still inaccessible. They are listed at: www.recyclingforapremier.com

As a result council has made temporary arrangements to collect all waste put in green or black wheelie bins. Weather permitting, the normal collection procedure will return from January 5. The timetable for collection over the festive season will continue to operate until January 22, with details available at: www.recyclingforapremier.com/Bank-Holiday

While collection of recycling boxes has also been temporarily suspended, this should resume from Wednesday December 29, weather permitting.

Council’s chief executive Daniel Goodwin said: “So far there has been a very small number of roads which have been inaccessible due to the snow and ice. This is a fantastic effort of the waste collection crews who have been operating in what are very difficult and dangerous conditions.”
