A 14-year-old has been charged with GBH after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed in St Albans.

Police were called to Verulamium Park in St Albans shortly before 7pm on Friday (June 15), after a teenage boy was injured and left with a wound in his abdomen.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with both GBH and assault by beating, and has been remanded to appear before magistrates’ court today (Monday, June 18).

He has since been remanded in custody and is due to appear at magistrates’ court again on Wednesday.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

A third boy, also 16, has since been arrested and remains in police custody.

The victim was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.

St Albans chief inspector Stuart Cheek said: “My officers have been working hard over the weekend to establish the circumstances around the incident and make arrests.

“I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our enquiries so far and would urge anyone else with information about what happened to please contact us.

“I understand that news of this will have caused concern among the local community. We believe this is an isolated incident involving young people who are known to each other and we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.
