TEENAGER Kevin Alexander was granted a very special wish to see the new giant Air Bus 380 aircraft on Saturday.

The 16-year-old from Artisan Crescent, St Albans, is living with the life-threatening illness neurofibromatosis and along with his family, was given the VIP treatment thanks to Make-A-Wish Foundation UK.

The day began when the Alexanders were picked up by Flight Lieutenant Luke Wilkinson in a luxury limousine, and taken to Farnborough International Air Show. On arrival they were met by their hosts Sam Macleod and Julie Mears of the Goodrich Corporation who had arranged all access passes for Kevin.

First Kevin was taken to various exhibitions, including the Air Bus A380 where he was met by Captain Frank Chapman and his co-pilot who gave Kevin a full tour of the plane and the cockpit. Flying enthusiast Kevin demonstrated his in-depth knowledge of the aircraft and was presented with a poster and a book on the Air Bus, signed by Captain Chapman.

Kevin was then able to meet the world famous Red Arrows, and have photos taken with them. He then visited leading aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Martin, and impressed personal with his ability to land a plane in the F35 flight simulator. He then watched professional pilots at the air displays - including one by the Air Bus 380.

Kevin and his family were also enthralled when three police dogs and their handlers were brought to say hello.

Kevin's mother Beverly said: "We've had a brilliant day. Kevin has always loved aeroplanes, particularly the Air Bus, ever since he was a young child. It is lovely to see him this happy. Thank you Goodrich and Make-A-Wish."

But Kevin's adventure was not yet over, his trip ended with the presentation of a voucher offering him five hours flying lessons.
