A 45-year-old taxi driver is recovering after being violently assaulted outside Harpenden train station last Friday (November 30).

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the attack at around 6.15pm in Station Approach.

The driver was involved in a disagreement with two men and was allegedly assaulted and racially abused. He attempted to run away when he was attacked again resulting in severe bruising to his eye, cuts to his face and a bruised jaw.

Det Con Stuart Alexander said: “This was a shocking assault on a taxi driver just trying to do his job.

“This incident occurred in the early evening when there would have been people coming and going to and from the train station and the main road.”

He urged anyone who might have witnessed something in connection with the assault to call the police non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
