IRELAND’S top politician flew in to be the surprise guest speaker at a fundraising dinner organised by a St Albans businessman.
John McGowan, co-owner of St Albans City Football Club, was delighted when family friend Enda Kenny TD agreed to attend the event at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood, which was in aid of the Taoiseach’s Fine Gael party.
The Taoiseach is Ireland’s head of government, acting as party leader, government chairman and chief policy maker in a position appointed by the President.
John said: “We were delighted that the Taoiseach was able to attend our event and to be the memorable guest speaker. The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.”
“The Taoiseach is from Mayo in Ireland, from where my family originate. My father knew him before he became Prime Minister so we contacted him on the off-chance that he could come. We were delighted that he was able to attend.”
