A song written by a band of brothers to raise money for Syrian refugees across Europe, which featured in the Herts Advertiser last month, has so far raised more than £1,100.

From Hell to Hope, penned by the Pile brothers - Josh, 15, Fin, 12 and Zac, 10 - was written in response to the intensified news coverage surrounding the plight of Syrian refugees in camps on the continent.

Fin, who edits the band’s videos, was invited up in a school assembly at Sandringham School, St Albans, to discuss the crisis and his brothers’ song. He said: “I was called up and I told everyone what we were doing and about the song and then they played the video.

“My school have asked people to donate so we can put the video up on the website.”

Josh, Fin and Zac - whose initial target was just £200 - now have their sights set on raising £1,000, and with the current rate of donations they look sure to reach it within the month.

Fin said: “We’ve had a lot more bigger donations. At the beginning it was £10, £20 but now we’re getting much bigger donations. We had a fifty and a couple of hundreds.”

The band - named Purple Day - is scheduled to play fundraising shows at the Trestle Theatre, on October 18, and at the Farmer’s Boy, also in St Albans, on October 29.

Mum Beccy said: “One girl just gave the boys a handful of change and I just thought that was so touching.”

Guitarist Josh said: “A lot of the teachers from our school have donated because they’ve seen the video.”
