ST ALBANS residents could strike lucky over the Grand National weekend after new research has revealed the city is the fifth luckiest place for betting on the horse race.
Bookmakers BetVictor analysed over 250,000 bets on the famous equestrian event over the last two years to identify trends in winning wagers, with 24.4 per cent stemming from the district being successful.
Lancaster was the most successful place in the country, while 75 is reportedly the luckiest age to bet on the National with veteran gamblers making a quarter of all bets placed on the race.
BetVictor’s findings also showed women marginally backed winning horses more often than men.
The Grand National is to be held at Aintree Racecourse this Saturday, March 6.
