SOLAR panels may be installed on the roof of St Albans District Council offices.
Plans have been submitted to the council's own planning department for a total of 75 panels to be placed on top of the Civic Centre.
The project will cost around £60,000, of which 50 per cent will be met by the council and the remainder by Central Government. The council anticipates that the switch will save them around £1,000 on electricity bills and 7,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
It effectively means the cost of the solar panels will take 30 years to offset.
