WORK is about to begin on a new ticket hall at the railway station which will act as a hub for Thameslink passengers wanting to access Crossrail and the London Underground.
Transport Minister Theresa Villiers visited Farringdon Station to mark the start of work on the ticket hall’s foundations.
Network Rail’s Thameslink Programme director Jim Crawford said: “In less than 18 months time passengers at Farringdon will benefit from this new ticket hall, vastly improving access to the station and helping transform it into one of London’s most important transport hubs.”
The work at Farringdon is being carried out to allow First Capital Connect (FCC) to run longer 12-carriage services on the Thameslink route and ultimately it will provide an interchange with Crossrail creating easy access to many more destination east and west, such as Heathrow.
FCC customer service director Michelle Smart said: “The new ticket hall at Farringdon Station will be a huge improvement for our Thameslink route customers in St Albans and Harpenden.
“Farringdon station will be ready for us to run the first 50 per cent longer 12-carriage services from Bedford in December 2011. The redesigned station and new ticket hall will provide much better connections with the Tube and ultimately Crossrail.”
