A group of football fans are embarking on a 50 mile, 12 hour walk to raise money for bowel cancer research.
Six friends, who call themselves the Stadium Strollers, are visiting all the London arenas which have hosted Premier League football along the route to Wembley Stadium on June 2.
They will walk from Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road, to Stamford Bridge, Craven Cottage, Selhurst Park, The Valley, London Stadium, White Hart Lane, and the onto Emirates Stadium.
They hope to reach the final stop, Wembley, for 5.15pm - in time for England’s final match before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Stadium Strollers hope to raise £2,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund, a branch of Cancer Research UK set up by Stephanie Moore, the widow of the former England captain who died of cancer in 1993.
One of the strollers, Cameron Miller, said: “We are all taking part in this event for The Bobby Moore Fund because, with us all being big supporters of our national team and being too young to have witnessed the Bobby Moore play, all we’ve ever heard is stories of the great man who tragically died as such a young age.
“By raising money for the fund we hope it increases the chances of the next generation being able to hear legendary football stories first hand.”
The strollers consist of Cameron, 22, his brother Callum Miller, 24, their cousin Rich Biggs, 25, Craig Jenkinson, 25, Elliot Gibbons, 23, and Joe Peacock, 23.
He added: “By doing this we hope to unite fans of our national team in the run up to the World Cup by remembering a true World Cup winning hero.
“This is one of the toughest challenges we have set ourselves. Knowing the money we raise will be used to fund vital bowel cancer research throughout the UK is the best part of all.”
To train for the mammoth ramble, the Stadium Strollers are walking from St Albans City FC’s ground of Clarence Park to Watford Football Club’s Vicarage Road in May.
Bobby Moore captained the England team to victory in the World Cup 1966, winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award that year.
