A WOMEN’S group celebrated their 50th birthday last week with a look back on their shared history in St Albans.
The Elizabethan Club in Marshalswick hosted an evening of memories, entertainment and good food on Wednesday (May 19) to honour the half century of the club which began in February 1961.
Over 40 women, including a founding member of the club, attended. Club secretary Shirley Brooks said the evening had been enjoyable for all and given them a chance to reminisce together. Set up as an alternative to the working men’s club for women in the area, the secular, non-political group has some long-standing members who have attended for 40 years. The group is a member of the National Association of Women’s Clubs (NAWC).
The group meet every Thursday at Marshalswick Community Centre. Anybody wishing to join or curious about the club is invited to go along.
