St Albans wine bar reunion to raise money for Keech Hospice and Rennie Grove

The ‘eighties are making a comeback when the staff and customers of a late, lamented St Albans bar are reunited in aid of local charities.
St Albans Mayor Cllr Salih Gaygusuz is hosting a reunion for friends of his former business Harry Smith’s Wine Bar to raise funds for Keech Hospice and Rennie Grove.
The popular Harry Smith’s operated in Verulam Road from the 1980s through to 2010, and was a regular haunt for many Spurs and Arsenal football players of the time.
Now the Mayor is putting on a night to remember at Batchwood Hall nighclub featuring DJs and bartenders from Harry Smith’s and hopefully many customers from the old days.
He said: “Harry Smith’s was more than a bar, and the good times had by many still linger on. Not a day goes by without someone asking why I don’t have a Harry’s reunion, and there is now a great opportunity to combine this with fundraising for Keech and Rennie Grove.
“It will certainly be a party to remember. Lots of people who used to attend still live in St Albans and neighbouring areas but many of those who have moved away will also be joining us for the event.”
Tickets for the event, which takes place at Batchwood on November 29 from 7.30pm, cost £5 and are available from Batchwood Hall and the Tourist Information Office.
