Keen gardeners can keep on digging in thanks to a donation from a local charity.

The St Albans-based voluntary group, Growing Roots, has received a £500 grant for the next five years from the St Albans Fund for the Future, managed by the Herts Community Foundation, which supports small voluntary groups with their projects.

Growing Roots was set up in 2012 by housing support worker, Carol Prowse, and gives vulnerable people the opportunity to spend time outside planting flowers, fruit and vegetables in an allotment in Highfield Park, St Albans.

The foundation director for the Hertfordshire Community Foundation, Jonathan Aves, said: “Projects like Growing Roots make a huge difference to the daily lives of the people they touch.”
