A NEWLY-renovated wildlife garden in St Albans attracted around 150 visitors when it was officially opened on Saturday.
The garden at Grebe House, the headquarters of the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust in Verulamium Park has been improved following a grant of more than 8,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
Verulam ward district councillor Nat Young carried out the opening ceremony at the garden which incorporates features such as a nestcam, bird boxes, new paths and fences, special timber on the Grebe House building to encourage bats and single-headed flowers to attract bees.
Information sessions on wildlife-related topics such as the best plants to attract wildlife to your garden and how to make a bird feeder were also held on Saturday.
Amy Ellis, People and Wildlife Officer said: “We wanted to show people how quick and easy it is to do one thing for wildlife in your garden – and your garden doesn’t have to be that big! We regularly get wonderful birds like long-tailed tits and nuthatches visiting our garden because it’s buzzing with insects.”
