A St Albans ukelele group raised more than a thousand pounds for a Hertfordshire care service with a charity concert.

The Ver Players, which has over 80 members, presented a cheque of £1,260 to the Hertfordshire Independent Living Service (HILS). The charity delivers meals and wheels and other care services to people across the country.

The group raised the money at its annual benefit gig, featuring both solos and group sing-a-longs, at St Albans’ Jubilee Centre.

HILS chief executive Sarah Wren, who received the cheque, said: “This is absolutely amazing and so much appreciated, as it will help us to support many more older and vulnerable people to help them stay healthy, happy, and independent at home.”

The donation will go towards vital nutrition boosts for malnourished clients, dementia fun clubs at the Jubilee Centre and gifts for clients.
