Asha Banks is singing alongside other West End performers on May 12 at the Southwark Playhouse in London.

She will be joined in a casual cabaret-style evening by stars from Hamilton and Little Shop of Horrors, as well as Trevor Dion Nicholas - who is currently playing the genie in Aladdin.

Asha started her career at seven years old when she was cast in Les Misérables. She has since had leading roles in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾, Annie, 1984 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The local schoolgirl will now be performing to raise money for The Good Grief Trust, a charity offering support to those suffering with bereavement.

The event is being run by young ambassador Katie Shalka, who titled the concert Songs for Jeremy, in memory of her father, Jeremy Shalka, who died from cancer when he was 44 in 2010.

It sold out last year, raising £2,500 for the trust.

Asha said: “I am honoured to be performing at this concert for The Good Grief Trust.

“It is such a worthy cause and Katie has done so much to raise money for it.

“She was just a little younger than me when she lost her father, and the trust is there to give anyone who has lost someone that vital support and help when they need it the most.

“I am thrilled to be singing alongside some of my favourite West End performers, especially the genie in Aladdin.”

St Albans resident and charity trustee Helen Churchill said: “It is wonderful when young people like Katie and Asha use their talents to help create wonderful events for the trust and I’d like to thank them.

“It is events such as these that keep the trust going, and means it is able to do the important work it does in supporting the bereaved.”
