A group of St Albans women have completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and raised money for Dementia UK in the process.

To complete the challenge, participants must scale the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in less than 12 hours.

The group of seven local mothers set off to take on the grim Northern weather and conquered all three peaks in just 11 hours and 30 minutes, raising over £3,500 in the process.

Shirley Anderson said: “The rain lashed, the wind howled and the visibility was poor, everyone’s feet were soaked, we were the only all female group doing the challenge, but we did it.”

This charitable excursion was no mean feat; the women covered a gruelling 24-mile route including 5,200 feet of ascent.

Friends Ginny Mettrick, Vanessa Woods, Emma Murphy, Tracey Douglas, Tara MacDonald, Suzy Jones Biggar and Shirley Anderson enjoyed a well-deserved celebratory dinner on the Saturday evening.
