Employees at a retirement housing construction company have completed a 60-mile bike ride, raising money for charity.

The team from McCarthy and Stone’s Colney Heath office were put through their paces recently, completing the challenging journey from London to Cambridge.

The sponsored cycle, led by construction director Peter Creighton, saw a seven-strong team of employees from the building company raise more than £2,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Peter said: “It was far from a perfect day for a bike ride, with torrential rain all day, but together we kept going for such a worthy cause!

“It was a tough challenge, even after months of training and preparation, and I’m so proud of the whole team for all their hard work and effort.

“We are so grateful for the support and donations we have received from family members, friends, subcontractors and suppliers – we couldn’t have done it without them.

“There are currently 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to one million by 2021.

“The work that Alzheimer’s UK does is invaluable and it is a cause that is dear to our hearts, so it gives us great pleasure in being able to support them in this small way.”

Sales and marketing director Elaine Stratford added: “We were delighted when we heard that the team was taking to the saddle and undertaking the challenging 60 mile route from London to Cambridge.

“As a company, we appreciate that our commitment is not only to build quality homes for retirees, but also to help create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.”
