A YOUNG Enterprise group has set up a joint venture with one of the city’s leading music pubs.

The City Calls (TCC), a group of seven St Albans Girls School (STAGS) students, will be holding a special live music event at The Horn in Victoria Street next Wednesday, February 23, for teenagers over the age of 14 with bands including Royal Flush, None of the Above and United Kites.

TCC were asked to organise their own event after their marketing efforts, including a Facebook fan page with more than 600 members, helped make The Horn’s inaugural 14+ event in December a massive success.

The group have overcome many obstacles to set up their business, including the recruitment of bands and finding a suitable venue appealing to teenagers and acceptable to their parents, which is also affordable.

It was a speech by Deputy Mayor Beric Read last year that ignited the group’s ambition to set up an event-organising company aimed at young people who are widely known to have a lack of activities to enjoy in the area.

TCC, who hope to organise further events, attribute their success to teamwork, good organisational skills and support from Rachael Purdy of The Horn, their Young Enterprise link teacher at STAGS, John Doyle, as well as advice from local businesswoman and author Christine Brown-Quinn.

Next week’s event will take place between 7pm and 12pm. For more information check out the TCC Facebook page by searching for The City Calls Events.
