Sea Cadets will be pushing the boat out as they celebrate the club’s 75th birthday.
St Albans Sea Cadets will demonstrate their seamanship skills on Armed Forces Day at Harpenden Common on Saturday, June 25, to commemorate 75 years of naval training.
The day will include a parade and cadets will be showing off their nautical skills as they build Gyns - a tripod used for transporting materials. They will also be demonstrating their drill and piping ability.
Ted Hill, commanding officer for the club, is thrilled with this year’s achievements. He said:”We have had another fantastic year. We gained a Burgee in February, the highest accolade at our annual inspection.
“We have raised hundreds of pounds through our fundraising activities and achieved nearly 100 qualifications since February.
He said they had also been very proud of the fact that one of their cadets had been chosen to take part in the Patrons Lunch in The Mall to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The birthday celebrations begin at 11am and will continue until 4pm.
