A group of Scouts from St Albans has been chosen to represent the UK at an international scouting jamboree.

The 24th World Scout Jamboree 2019 is being co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States and will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, a 10,000-acre campsite in the mountains of southern West Virginia.

The selected Scouts are now busy fundraising, as Scouts have to raise the money to cover the cost of their trip with participants from affluent countries, such as the UK, subsidising those from poorer parts of the world.

Agnes, one of the 16 Scouts from St Albans chosen to take part, said: “I applied to go to the jamboree because I had heard stories of other people going and how amazing it was.

“By sharing experiences with people from all around the world, I hope to learn things that I can then pass on to the next generation of Scouts.”
