CONGRATULATIONS on their wonderful achievement at GCSE have been extended to students at all the district's comprehensive secondary schools by the local headteachers association.

Elizabeth Hitch, head of Beaumont and chair of STASSH (St Albans and Harpenden Secondary Headteachers), said their success was a reflection of their very hard work and application across two years of study.

She went on: "As we know these days, GCSE results are not simply the outcome of a terminal examination but the result of conscientious efforts in coursework and modular exams during Year 10 and 11.

"Some students will have followed alternative courses to GCSE such as BTEC and OCR Nationals, all of which require a consistent hard-working approach over a prolonged period of time."

Ms Hitch said parents should be very proud of the successes achieved by their children which put St Albans and Harpenden schools among the top comprehensives in the country.
