A novice runner will be taking on her biggest fundraising challenge yet for a charity close to her heart.
Clare Taylor, of Hadrian Close, St Albans, lost her father to Parkinson’s in August last year after his 28-year battle with the disease.
She has organised various fundraising events in previous years, racking up thousands for charity Parkinson’s UK, which carry out vital research into condition for which there is currently no cure.
But alongside her usual events, Clare has also decided to run the London Marathon for the charity.
She said: “I hadn’t done any running since cross country at school. People say not to make any big decisions when you’re grieving but I guess I ignored that memo.
“My Dad was a big runner. He ran numerous half marathons and one marathon, and he would think I was mad for signing up.
“I would always watch the London Marathon with him every year and this challenge seems like a really fitting way to honour him and the times we shared together.”
Clare has to raise a minimum of £2,000 for the charity and alongside her yearly bake sale at her home, set to take place on April 16, she will also be hosting a fundraising evening at the King Harry in St Albans this Saturday (27).
Guests can expect night of quizzes and old-school board game tournaments including Simon, Four Coloured Lights, Shove Ha’penny and Labyrinth.
The event officially begins at 7pm, but Clare will be at the pub collecting from about 5pm for the showing of the England v Ireland rugby match.
