TENTH anniversary celebrations proved to be a real community affair in an area of St Albans on Saturday.

Cell Barnes Lane Residents’ Association (CBRA) celebrated its first decade entertaining guests on the lawns of Thirlmere Church.

Members served cakes, tea, coffee and juice – provided free by local shops and CBRA – as people from all over the neighbourhood flocked to the community day.

There was face painting for the children and a chance to sound the siren when PCSO Kara Berry and Community Constable Adam Wills showed them their police car.

And there was a moment of drama when the fire brigade put in an appearance which was cut short by a “shout” during the afternoon.

Deputy Mayor and local councillor, Geoff Harrison, cut the 10th anniversary cake and congratulated CBRA on its contribution to the community.

The event raised 60 for the association’s funds, 40 of which will go to the Cell Barnes Youth project.
