TV licence evaders are a rarity in St Albans compared to other cities in the county, a survey revealed this week.

The results of the new TV licensing survey show that 91 TV licence evaders from St Albans were caught in the first half of this year, compared to nearly 290 in Stevenage and just over 230 in Hemel Hempstead.

Other Hertfordshire cities with similarly low results include Hitchin, where 90 evaders were caught, and Borehamwood, which had the lowest level at 89 people.

The survey also found that more than 214,000 people were caught watching TV without a license across the UK between January and June this year, working out to an average evasion rate of just over five per cent.
