St Albans remembers Victory over Japan Day


Standards were proudly displayed by veterans’ groups at Sunday’s 70th commemoration of the Victory over Japan Day at Jersey Farm Woodland Park in St Albans.


The commemoration was organised by the Royal British Legion(RBL) with the Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, laying a wreath on behalf of the city.

The Rev Em Coley of St Leonard’s Church in Sandridge conducted the service which was attended by members of the public with councillors from the village and Harpenden.

The Salvation Army and musicians from the Spicer Street Church played the Last Post while Don Dell from the RBL delivered read the Exhortation.

The standards on display included the RBL, The Burma Star Association, The Korean Veterans Association, L.S.T and Landing Craft Association, REME and RAF Associations.
