A SECOND flood alert has been issued for the St Albans district, for the upper River Colne at Colney Heath and London Colney, and Tykes Water in Radlett.
The alert, issued by the Environment Agency (EA) today (Monday June 11), means that flooding is possible and that residents should be prepared.
A flood alert was issued earlier this morning for the River Lea in Wheathampstead and Harpenden.
St Albans district councillor for Colney Heath Chris Brazier has applauded the agency for texting locals in advance about rising waters.
The agency was lambasted last month when it failed to warn residents before the River Colne burst its banks.
Cllr Brazier said he received a text message at 10.30am, about the same time the flood alert was posted on the EA’s website, warning of the danger of possible flooding.
He added: “I’m happy we have received the proper alert prior to it happening, rather than after it has flooded and residents are caught unawares.
“The River Colne is flowing quite fast but it hasn’t breached its banks yet.”
The agency explained that heavy rain overnight had resulted in rising waters.
