St Albans IT company to demonstrate dangers of ransomware in wake of cyber attacks on NHS and universities

A St Albans-based IT company is inviting small business owners to see a live demonstration of a ransomware attack.
Cheeky Munkey, which advises small and medium-sized businesses on cyber security, are holding the event at Mokoko on Verulam Road, on Thursday at 8.30am.
Last May, dozens of NHS trusts, including West Herts NHS Trust, which runs St Albans City Hospital, were impacted by a ransomware attack.
A ransomware attack is where hackers block someone’s access to data, or threatens to delete or publish it, unless a ransom is paid.
The attack was subsequently linked to North Korea.
University College London fell victim to a ransomware attack just last week.
Cheeky Munkey revealed that 20 per cent of British businesses hit by a ransomware attack were charged more than £10,000 to unlock their data.
