RAIL travellers using St Albans City Station will have their movements monitored by a CCTV control room in Enfield.

Train operator First Capital Connect (FCC) has opened the new control centre which is linked to more than 1,000 CCTV cameras sited on FCC's 61 stations.

The control room will be staffed by FCC employees who will team up with Enfield Council security contractors and Met Police officers, when on joint operations.

FCC will also install 61 new help points at its stations, taking the total number to 124 by September this year.

Elaine Holt, managing director of FCC said they were committed to the safety of their customers and had reduced crime by 15 percent and anti-social behaviour by 44 per cent.

She added that they were looking forward to working with their partners from Enfield and the police at the new centre.
